Scholarship holders

Finding research supervision

You yourself are responsible for finding a suitable research supervisor (professor).

Neither the Student Exchange Office nor the Doctoral Administration can help you with the search for a supervisory person for your application for a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship.

Have you already read the external page FCS website? Both links will be helpful for you.

For information on current research projects in your field, please see the following ETH Zurich web pages:

Contact with professor

Make direct contact with a professor and declare your interest in collaborating on a specific research project.

Tell the professor what you have studied so far and that you are applying for a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship.

All enquiries must be accompanied by the following documents, at a minimum:

Acceptance at ETH Zurich* after the award of a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship

* Administrative and other assistance (social, cultural) to scholarship holders at research institutions in the ETH Domain (Eawag, Empa, PSI, WSL) is also provided by the ETH reception service for holders of Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships.

Please note, however, that the following information only applies in part to scholarship holders at research institutions. Please address queries to the ETH Zurich reception service.

The final Master's transcripts / Master's degree or an equivalent university degree should be submitted by 30 June to ensure enrolment as an FCS visiting student by 1 September.

Important: The Master's degree must be achieved by 30 June in order to ensure the start of the doctorate at ETH by 1 September of the same year.

Registrations for doctoral studies are only possible once all the necessary requirements in the Master's degree program have been fulfilled and all grades and credits can be shown. Also the grade for the Master's thesis. In addition (if the Master's diploma is not yet available) a confirmation from the home university confirming the degree in writing must be submitted.

If the complete application dossier with the online verifiable Master's degree cannot be submitted electronically to the Doctoral Administration by 30 June (in particular due to the lack of confirmation of the online verifiable Master's degree), the scholarship commission as well as the reception office at ETH must be informed immediately and the situation regarding the scholarship must be re-evaluated.

Clarify questions regarding the registration and admission procedure early with the Doctoral Administration.

The copy of the doctoral certificate should be submitted by 30 June in order to ensure registration via Human Resources in time for 1 September.
