ETH establishes Sustainability Council

To further strengthen the sustainability culture at our university, ETH Zurich is establishing a Sustainability Council. This council will consist of about ten professors from different departments, as well as representatives from VSETH, AVETH and PeKo, and will complement the existing sustainability governance.

The Sustainability Council's tasks include providing strategic support and advice to the whole of ETH Zurich on the direction of its sustainability efforts. To this end, it will, among other things, develop an action plan with sustainability goals and evaluate sustainable development processes at international and national level for ETH.

The Sustainability Council is expected to start its work in the course of this year. You can find out more about it soon on internal news.

New member appointed to the Research Commission

The Executive Board has appointed Jeremy Richardson as a new member of the ETH Zurich Research Commission (RC) for a term of office from 1 March 2025 to 28 February 2029. Richardson is a professor of Theoretical Molecular Quantum Dynamics (D-CHAB). His expertise is an ideal addition to the RC. In recognition of their work on the Research Commission, the Executive Board extends its thanks to Gabriela Hug, Professor of Electric Power Systems (D-ITET), Markus Reiher, Professor of Theoretical Chemistry (D-CHAB), and Philip Ursprung, Professor of the History of Art and Architecture (D-ARCH). The three current members will step down from the RC on 28 February 2025.

The RC assesses around 300 applications annually within the framework of ETH-internal funding programmes (ETH Grants, ETH-Fellows, Career Seed Grants) and other evaluation mandates (e.g. ETH Zurich Latsis Prize and Latsis Symposium). It advises the Vice President for Research and the ETH Zurich Executive Board on fundamental research issues. It currently has 24 members, with women making up one third of the body.
